Pit Stop a Successful Outcome

The Pit Stop – Health Checks for Men project held on 27th October 2012  was very successful.

DSCN0414

More than 500 people visited the event to view the collection of Vintage and speedway cars, however most the important part of the day is that 104 men registered to put their body through the Pits for Health Checks.

Staffed by Health Professionals and Volunteers who coordinated the men through each health check station which included Blood Pressure, Smoking and Alcohol  intake, Bowel and Testicular Cancer awareness,  Skin Care etc.

92 men completed the Pit Stop evaluation sheet and more then 15 recorded high blood pressure and stated that they will be seeking an appointment with their GP during the next week.

The Pit Stop was a free, friendly environment where men could talk openly to medical and health professionals to discuss any concerns.

Pit Stop registrants received a Pass or Fail sticker at the end, and those who received a fail sticker indicated they would seek medical intervention during the next week.

All comments on the evaluation sheets were very positive and some of the examples are below.

91 thought that the people manning the stations were well informed and performed the health checks in a professional manner.

other comments..

Health checks were all done in a professional manner
The best thing was that it was Free
gave good food for thought
good free give aways
good general over haul of health issues and relating it to car issues made it fun and easy to understand.
now more away of my health
took the fear factor out
non judgemental advice
history of bowel cancer in family more aware of the risks now.
Blood pressures and blood glucose testings a good idea.
A shared concern for men’s health, great job

Improvements that could be made…

Need more to man the stations,
stations further apart for privacy
more marketing and advertising

Having the doctors and nurses made it a well run and professional service.
information and polite attitude well appreciated.

Identified were several high blood pressures , high blood glucose levels
large waist measurements and poor flexibility,

The pit stop has prompted these men to seek further medical advice.
We may have saved just one life from these simple medical checks but one life is worth saving
or preventing a heart attack or stroke.

The Pit Stop – Health Checks for Men has been a very successful community project and will be run again on 26th October 2013. For more information  www.teatreegully.rotaryaust.org
