Meeting 2299

At our meeting #2299 Guest Speaker Alan Rose spoke on the topic of Nuclear Submarines.

Alan is a former Weapons Engineer, Royal Navy Submariner, and Retired Commander who is now working with the Nuclear Submarine Taskforce in Adelaide.

The submarines will be built in sections and put together in one place; they are more complicated than building the Space Shuttle.

  • Essentially, a Nuclear Submarine runs on steam.
  • The staff on board do a rigorous 6 hours on 6 hours off roster and 2 shifts per 24 hours

In the 60 years of nuclear Submarines there has only been one major problem, when a submarine imploded.  The maintenance and safety these days is kept extremely high.

The new era of submarine in Australia will be surrounded by safety training.
